Anybody know the particulars on this Port Isabel kayaking death? According to the news site, the guy's name is Adrian Garcia. As tragic is these accidents are, they serve to teach us lessons on things like paddling in bad weather (fog?) and not wearing a life preserver. The guy looks too young and in too good of shape for something like this to occur.

I think they were out on the water when this last front blew in on Friday.

To many of these stories lately. Time to kill the PFD and go back to calling them Life Jackets.....Very sad and unnecessary loss of life. Prayers to the family and all that they are going through. I know people who refuse to wear them but I ask them to please not think of themselves but those left behind to deal with such a loss. It could at the very least allow them to have closer in the event you do not make it back to the launch. Luckily for the family, this young man was found. Imagine never finding the remains or knowing exactly what did happen. I will step off my soap box now...

Sad! These stories are happening all too often!

Sad to here this, prayers for the family. We opted to wade vs launching kayaks Friday night in corpus. Winds were steady 25mph+ and temps were chilly.

Folks need to wear their life jackets, not just just lay them on the deck.

Please wear your life vest. mine has saved me once already.
Also the water is still cold.
Please dont take it lightly.

Many, many years ago, I used to race AA/FD dragsters. A lot of the guys used to cheat on safety equipment, "because it costs too much"! My reply was that, "When you cheat on safety, you're only cheating yourself". Life jackets are to keep you from drowning! PFD's aren't that uncomfortable. Wear 'em! It's rare for the EMT's to find a drowned body with a PFD.
